my favorite horse trainer is John Lyons. His training methods are easy enough for anyone to use and understand. He explains his techniques in a way that is easy to understand, and even a child can train a horse using his methods. The methods are simple and easy to apply as long as you are patient and consistent with your horse.

my faviort is sarah or mary drake because they make you do the work but at the same time they make so you can have fun and if you dont understand what they are saying then they can make easy and you want to do something she will try for it to happen

I really like Pat Parelli because he works with the horse and the rider and they develop a relationship out of trust, not fear as in Monty Roberts.

i have studied with many trainers but i must recommend my trainer of 14 years Laurie Wolf. she teaches what she refers to as 'balanced seat' . this technique is centuries old and is the basis of dressage and 'balanced riding'. just as the centaur half man half horse we become one with the horse and riding becomes an art and a way of life. my horse actually loves to be schooled and ridden. he and i are a team because of this very knowlegable woman.

Obviously some people haven't read SHY BOY, Montry Robert's book about a wild horse he trained. This is an incredible book, and it must have been an incredible experince. You shouldn't judge a trainer until you are positive that he/she is credible or not. I propse that you haven't ever met him, or done anything with him, and his methods are far from instilling fear.

I have the movie on Monty Roberts where he and a couple of his buddies go into the wild and break a wild mustang. Although he's not my favorite trainer, I thorougly enjoyed the video!

I can't say I have one favorite. I thank them all. I feel anyone who has ever had a horse can teach me one thing or two. I read train books and equi mag. all the time.

i agree with carole, john lyons is the easiest trainer to understand and his methods work from round pen training to trailer loading, i use his techniques on a daily basis and with patients they all work wonderfully

Pat Parelli...THEY ARE THE BEST!!! Natural horsemanship ROCKS!

I definately have to say John Lyons!! I've worked with two "top" western pleasure trainers who only wanted to beat and yank on my horse, and in 4 months she learned nothing, while in 3 lessons with John Lyons techniques, she is a perfect show horse!

There are so many GREAT books & video's available on basic training and schooling. I attended a John Lyons siminar back in 1980 in Texas. I didn't even had a horse at the time. I was totally amazed. I used his repitition & positive mental attutude training on our show dogs. (It works for them too!) Pat Parelli is anoth I attedned a couple years ago. (now that we have horses.) I have the video & book of Monty Roberts. All seem similar, I apply a bit of each ones techniques. I truly enjoy Gawani Pony Boy for the relationship bonding whit a horse. These are all GREAT and there are many more authors, the one breed that is lacking in training publications in the American Saddlebred performance divisions & futurity presintation. Of course that is my breed! Visit us at http://abrasaddlebreds.homestead.com

I really agree with both Monty Roberts and Pat Parelli's techniques!!

I like Pat Parelli and Clinton Anderson. They both work with you and the horse as a team and have a great style.Jhon Lyons is all right but at his deminstrations he takes so long to get to the point. He just keeps telling stories that have nothing to do with the subject.

I don't have a favorite trainer as I have a stb and there doesn't seem to be anyone who can help. My horse loves to pull but just stands there patiently waiting for me to dismount after pretending to be a statue! I'm not giving up-just continuing to be patient and hope that he will enjoy riding the trails like I do.

i've read monty & parelli books and watched numerous videos.. i'd have to say i lean more towards monty as he explains things better as he goes, where as parelli just does it and doesnt give you any info as to why it works and why the horse responds...

Johnny Dawson is amazing, I have been around horses for over 30 years here in Darwin and haven't met anybody like him before. He's not a big name, a quiet achiver. Johhny comes from the old school of training, with over 50 years in the industry, I would expect so.

My favorite horse trainer is John Lyons, not because his methods are easy, but because he does nothing by force, he believes that the best way to train a horse is by bonding with your horse, and learning to trust eachother. People who believe that they should train a horse by trying to teach him whose boss, and the only way to do that is by force, I think are very ignorant, and think of nothing but themselves. I believe in John Lyons's ways because of his kindness to horses, not because his steps are easy.

There are many horse trainers and clinicians today. Sometimes it is hard to determine if someone is legitimate or not. There are a lot of people who claim to be trainers. However, I believe we can learn from all of them, even if all we learn is what NOT to do. I am a real believer in the methods taught by Ray Hunt and Tom Dorrance and those who studied under them and follow their practices. Their methods are gentle, are no-nonsense horsemanship. It just makes sense to me. They stress the foundation work which is important no matter what your riding discipline is. If asked to pick a favorite I would have to say Buck Brannaman (A former student of Ray Hunt). I rode in one of his clinics and have spectated a few and it has definitly made a difference for me. He books and tapes are great.

My favorite horse trainer would be Bent Branderup. I don't think many people in the USA or GB have heard of him, but he is quite famous in Europe especially in Germany, Denmark or The Netherlands.

I would have to say that I don't have a favorite. I like all of them who believe in training a horse spiritually to help it through it's problems; whatever they may be.

I have to Clinton Anderson and then John Lyons.

I have to say Clinton Anderson. I have seen his work and have used his techniques on the horses I work with and handle. I also like John Lyons.

I use a lot of Richard Shrake and am using Lynn Palm's Longevity training on my baby. They both are easy, common sense and teaching for the future. I had the opportunity to meet and spend time with both of them and like their philosophy

What would a person look for when buying a race horse? What should you look at in the horse? Thanks Jill
