The best 'supplement' I have found is Equi-trol. Fed daily, it makes the horse's waste 98% infertile to insects...so that flies and other insects cannot lay their eggs in it. I feed it to every one of my horses daily, and also require boarders to use it. Now there are significantly less pestering insects flying around our barn.

While I try to keep supplements at a minimum, I have found that stabalized rice bran helps my horses--who are generally very hot--to relax without any weight loss. They seem to love the taste, and I am very pleased with the results

I feed my l9-year-old quarterhorse Accel, Red Cell and MSM, as he was stiff and reluctant to move. I started these supplements 3 months ago and it has made a marked difference.

I always feed my broodmares MarePlus and the foals get ColtPlus as soon as they are able to eat grain. I have never had any nutritional or health problems with my mares in the last severals years that I started this supplement feeding.

I give my five year old quarterhorse mare dynamite plus by dynamite corp. I works beautifully.

My 9 year old formerly starved QH gets Opticoat (which helped a lot) and Farrier's Formula (recomended by vet, don't know if it is working yet). He is also on equine senior which is great too.

Beet pulp & corn oil for adding weight. Works in about 2 months, easy to digest. Use about 1 coffee can shreaded beet pulp, mixed with 1 can water & 1/2 cup oil. Mix with regular grain. They love it warm in the winter! and Easy for older horses to digest.`

My horse was tying-up. Started him on Trace-lytes from Springtime, Inc. and Mega-sel(selenium & vitamin E). So far his performance and attitude has greatly improved & he's back to his old self again. It's been expensive but he's worth it.

I live in Nevada. Our area does not contain selenium in our hay and lacks sufficient vitamins and minerals needed. LMF is a product that I started my 5 year old on and he is a completely different horse. From my understanding, LMF is a product specially formulated for our area. If you have this deficiency in your area, you should try it.

I have started giving my 30 year old pony Corti-Flex liquid, a glucosamine supplement, for her arthritic legs. She has improved tremendously, even runs and plays with Maddie now.

I USE ON MY 10 YEAR OLD QUARTER HORSE MARE OMOLENE 200 FOR HER GRAIN AND I ADD JOINT COMBO FOR HER HOCKS, AND I USE NU-IMAGE FOR HER COAT. HER COAT IS SO SOFT AND A DARK RED FOR BEING A BAY. THE JOINT COMBO HAS IMPROVED HER PERFORMANCE IN BARRELS. SHE MOVES A LOT BETTER ON THE FLAT TOO.

probias is a great way to insure good gut function

I feed "professional nutrietion" (pn) it is a complete supplement you feed with oats. The only other mineral you supply with it is a salt brick. It's wonderful my horse had a hard time maintaining his wieght whenever stressed or worked hard. This did the trick, he maintains his wieght now, and has a wonderful long mane & tail. Wonderful hooves. My farrier even told me to cut it back because his hooves grow so fast.

Great Lakes Blend ensures my horses are getting all of their required vitamins and minerals. Their coats are shiny and they have tons of energy.

At the barn where I keep my horse, many of the horses are on different kinds of supplements; *glucosamine, msm for arthritis/stiffness *feisty mare/serenity to relax tense horses *cod liver oil to improve coat and aid with breathing *flax seed to improve coat's shine *farrier's formula for healthy strong hooves These are the more common supplements with our horses, but to target a specific problem, you can either talk to your vet, or research supplements in books specifically about supplements, found in large bookstores like chapters. Herbal supplements are increasingly popular, substituting supplements such as bute for yucca, devil's claw, etc. Many horses require no supplements at all, and before spending money on expensive supplements, you should always check with your vet to ensure that it is neccessary.

milled flaxseed, cheap and effective for weight, shine and general wellbeing. Also, Natural Farmworks Equine Premium. Again cheap, all natural, and effective. We have a horse who has heaves and find that Garlic Powder and Coltsfoot is VERY effective

Any information on TLC Nutrition? And, the feeding of soybean meal and flax seed

I have a healthy & active 24 yr. old Quarter horse. I just switched his hoof supplement to Grand Hoof (hoping to see more hoof growth), and I also have him on Sure Flex for his joints. Since he's been on the Sure Flex, he seems to be a lot less stiff. We do a lot of trail riding, so it has made a difference.

Suppliment alternatives. okay here is a few that I have found excellent: Biocare (Biotin): Use continually over 12 months, you will find a new horse, with new feet. Corn or Sunflower Oil: Excellent fattener, but please introduce from a quarter of a cup, no more than a cup over a month or two and then get off when fattening has been achieved, or your horse will suffer from heart/ respritory problems. Sulpher and Salt: Get a container mix with equal parts of sulpher and salt, the horse will lick at it as it pleases. Will help as a trace element, salt is good for energy (never place more than a flat table spoon into feed if doing this way)and sulpher is great to create a tolerance to insect bites. Check out sea weed, sunflower seeds, rice pollard (excellent fattener)again do not keep using as your horse will get fat around it's heart when too fat, ect. You'll be surprised.

I was woundering if anyone knows any good joint suppliments

Posted By: Shawnee

One problem that I have seen is that the people who give the most supplements dont ride enough, then when the horse misbehaves, they add more supplements to cure the problem. Now NOT EVERY ONE who uses supplements DOES THIS. Another thing is that most joint suppluments contain ground up cartilege from cattle and sheep and even other horses. That cartilege is from animals in Europe that were proclaomed unhealthy for human consumption because of expasure to Hoof and mouth deisese or Mad cow deises. Do you really want your horse eating that?

IS TLC ANIMAL NUTRITION, INC THE SAME AS FRANK LAMPLEY'S A-Z? THEY BOTH HAVE PA ADDRESSES AND TALK THE SAME TALK.

I was wondering if any one who uses Corti-Flex has found their horses to develop hoof problems. ie brittle on the outside and soft and mushy on the inside
