every time i would start to mount my horse, she would back-up, when she would do this, i would continue to back her 10-15 ft. while giving her the backing command, then try to mount again. the first time it took a few repetitions, but after a few rides she now stands perfectly for me to mount. my filly is very green, i've ridden her 14 times and started this the very first she was ever ridden. i never hit her, and she learnd anyway. My horse steps to the side or swings his hindquarters away from me when I'm trying to mount. I am not sure I understand the half circles. I use a lunge line, but I am not lunging? Do I keep him close to me or do I let him go to the outer edge of the lunge circle? Thanks.

thank you for your advice, i am novice rider my horse keeps taking off after i have mounted, its got so bad that i am now afraid to ride her, in fact i was thinking of selling her, she is just unsafe, what do you think, how long does it take to train her to stand still after mounting up

I had tried longeing my horse when he wouldn't stand still for mounting. It worked eventually but I think the idea of doing half-circles instead will be more effective. Thanks.

Sounds interesting! Can't wait to try it. My young, green horse wants to buck when I mount. Do you have any other advice?
