I am very curious of what you could get out of a liver chestnut mare? What colors could you get other than sorrel or palomino? I ask because after she has her foal I would like to breed her to this buckskin. I know my chances of getting a buckskin is very slim, one to a million really, but what would I get? So curious.

I am learning about horse colors in my veterinary classes and we are required to distinguish between a Chestnut and a Sorrel. I'm confused because on your site you said that a Chestnut is AKA a Sorrel - making them the same.... the teacher has taught us that the Chestnut and Sorrel are two separate colors ? Is this correct?

I had a filly born the other day that is bright red with navy colored eyes, pink skin and white hooves. Her legs are much lighter then her body and are a beige almost palomino color but her body and mane is red. Her dam is a black pinto and sire is a buckskin. I am having a hard time finding out if she is really a sorrel or if she is a palomino. I didn't think sorrels had pink skin, so could she be a palomino??? Any help would be greatly Appreciated!

I have an appaloosa filly born in November 2005, mama is light chestnut, dad is loud black/white. Baby came out lighter chestnut then mom but has turned into a very dark red/brown. mane and tail started out flaxen but is quickly turning black. I thought she was going to be a liver chestnut but I don't think they have black mane and tail. What do you think.

I have a foal, born bright red, pink skin, white hooves, navy to royal blue eyes. Shortly after birth her skin turned dusky, eyes gradually became dark, and hooves grew out to be greyish. Her dam is dark brown with red , tan muzzle, tan in flanks, possible rabacanio or sabino markings. Sire was buckskin that greyed. The foal is starting to get light blonde or white hair in mane and tail. Never had chestnut horse before, would like to know what you think? Could she be palomino? Her mane is very bright red and is lighter than her body.Kathy T

I'm curious about a color variation of chestnut called "tostado" in which the horse is usually light or red chestnut with darker (but not black) legs -- no other colored points. Have you heard of this?

My new foal looks like a sorrel but he gets really light as you go down his legs, like a cream color. His sire is a palomino and his dam is a sorrel pinto. I'm pretty sure that he's going to be a sorrel but i just wanted a second opinion.

Thank you so much for having such great pics of the colors. I have been searching for ages to find a pic of a liver chestnut. I rode a 5 gaited quarter horse of that color for years. Havent been able to find his pics and wanted to show the color to my daughter. I think its the most beautiful color ive ever seen on a horse. Again, thank you so much and I now have your page bookmarked. Wonderful job :)

I'm curious about a color I have always called "chocolate palomino." It's a liver chestnut color, with flaxen mane and tail. There are usually liver colored hairs in the main and tail, but flaxen dominates. No black; some slight dilution towards the points. Would you call this "flaxen liver chestnut," or ...?
