My horse is a bay, but he has white hairs mixed in... Would that make him a bay roan???

Brown IS a horse colour! It describes a dark brown body with a dark brown mane and tail.

Thank-you for making this basic enough for us newcomers to the barn...I was so surprised to find out that "brown" isn't a horse color!

You should really have more types of bays on your page like blood bays and silver bays.

I believe that the bay light or dark is the one of the most beautiful horses I have ever seen or desired to own. I apreciate that you kept your website easy and simple to understand.

'rompin', your horse is still considered bay. Most bays, but not all have black points on their ears. \your horse may not carry some bay genetics beacuse of her dam and sire's colouring, however.

I must remind you about 'wild bay'. This horse colour has dull black points from the fetlock to a couple of inches above the hoof. I also feel I must say this this article was highly inadequate as it did not explain any of the genetics surrounding the coat colour bay. Take this advice with a grit box of salt.

Thank you SOO MUCH for keeping it simple and not going into all the genetic stuff! Another site I looked at trying to find out more about horse colors confused me so much!!!! It was talking about the gentetics alot!! Thanks for keeping it simple but imformative!!! :)

I bought a QH/Arab Mare that ended up having a colt, not knowing what the stud was. This Web site help me better determine what his breed & coloring was. I think I can clearly state now that he is a beautyful Bay.

i had a good laugh at the lady i bought my foal from ,when i said bay,she said no blue roan? her mom was a white tri paint, the father unknown ,but she is brown whith black almost all the way up all four legs black mane and tail but her ears are brown ,so it this still considered a bay?help

Not all bay's have a black mane & tail. Silver Bay's have a flaxen mane & tail.
