Biting Colt / Shy Filly

I have a similar dilema with my gelding. The big difference is that he is 14 years old, built a very dominant behavior and when punished such as pinching his muzzle or hitting his face, he immediately tries to rear and stomp on you to the point where it is sometimes not even possilbe to get close enough to deal out the punishment first. Is there any way to head this behavior off or other way of punishment that will force him back and begin correcting his agressive behavior?

I totally disagree with ever hitting a horse! Especially anywhere near his head and face! All he is going to learn is to be head shy and that is not good if you ever want this horse to trust you...ever! That is bad advice. My husband has taken horses that have been abused, neglected and trained improperly and turned their behavior around. He has worked with colts who have had no training and gotten them to stop biting, standing up and just acting like little juvenial deliquents and taught them that humans can be trusted in time. He uses the Monty Roberts (The Horse Whisperer) techniques. When he first started wtih horses he had never even heard of Monty Roberts and his tecniques. I guess he had natural horse sense. What breed of horse is this that bit your husband? My husband would also be willing to train him for you for a fee of course and depending on where you are located he would come to you. If you are interested you may contact him at sddlbrd1@aol.com. I hope you can get your little colt straightened out. Good luck with your horses. I hope they become wonderful horses for you. If you have questions about this please email us.
